I am a long time Amherstburg resident who has at one time or another lived in our rural areas, in one of our subdivisions and in our town core. I am a wife to Kevin Colautti, a mom to three great children - Meghan, Payton and Joe, and grandmother to the amazing Harper. I spent 16 years serving the residents of Amherstburg as a library worker at our historic Carnegie branch of the Essex County Library system and most recently helped to get Amherstburg's own River Bookshop up and running as part of a revitilization of our downtown core.
As Administrative Director of the Amherstburg Community Foundation I was instrumental in getting our Believe in Amherstburg Initiative off the ground. It has distributed funds to many deserving organizations in Amherstburg - helping to make Amherstburg the best small town in Ontario in which to live, play and visit.
Through my work with the Canadian Union of Public Employees as Chairperson of CUPE 2974.0 I've learned how to advocate for people. I am experienced in fighting for the good of the whole while taking care of the individual. My experience with contracts, collective agreements, budgets and working with different groups to reach compromises makes me uniquely qualified to serve on Amherstburg town council.
My vision is one of moving our town forward in all aspects - industry, tourism and quality of life for all residents. All of these things are interconnected and must be viewed as a whole so no one sector is boosted at the expense of another.
I believe in our town.
I believe in its beauty, its people, its potential.
I believe its future is just as important as its past.
I believe it can be better for all of us, residents and taxpayers, young and old.
I believe we have to keep moving forward with determination, imagination and a focus on the next year, the year after that and the next decade. If not we risk being left behind while others shine.
I believe change is good.
I know I am the candidate to represent you and our town, to put in the work and to keep Amherstburg moving forward.
